WASH YOUR FABRIC BEFORE YOU CUT IT! You’d think after all the times I boss you guys around telling you what to do with your fabric, I’d actually do it myself. No, I was so excited to cut into that gorgeous gray linen…that I didn’t even wash it before I made that sweet little ottoman cover. It looks like it’s waiting for a flood. Maybe I can add something to the bottom so it won’t feel so insecure about it’s highwater skirt.
I’ve also decided that we’re going to do a Slipcover Party on the last Friday of every month. That way, everyone can get motivated to start and finish and be ready by the end of the month. And if you don’t make it one month, then you know you can do it the next! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s slips. You girl’s are amazing seamstresses! Just make sure to wash your fabric before you cut. K? K.
If you need help, you can download The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Custom Slipcovers by clicking on the button above…for only $10. I try my best to answer everyone’s emails and questions about slipcovers. If I haven’t answered your question, please shoot me another email. I’m not ignoring you on purpose, I promise!
Oh that stinks. I would be the one to forget to wash my fabric first. You don't know how bad I wish you'd fly out here and make a new slip cover for my gian sofa. When I ordered it, I had them do a slipcover style so I'd be able to switch it later. I'm just a little overwhelmed at the thought of doing it myself…it's huge! I should probably try something small first. Love your blog, thanks for sharing all your great tips. 😀
Oh, dear. Maybe there is more linen at Walmart and you can wash it first, then sew a cute ruffle beneath.?? Still cute, though.
this makes me feel so much better about the fact that i spent the weekend making a new slipcover for my ottoman because mine looked just like that after a few washes – even though i washed and dried it twice before making it! I avoided white this time too. Way too high maintenance for this construction/kid/dog zone.
yay for a slipcover party just in time for me to finish my new one!
Don't feel bad. I washed, dried, washed, air dried my cotton duck before making a chair and ottoman cover and it still shrunk. Getting that baby back on the chair is like putting a pair of pantyhose on an elephant.
Oh no! It was so cute too! I'd cut the legs off the ottoman, the slipcover was just too cute to waste!
You might be able to have it “steam” ironed out, i have a steam iron and find it relaxes the fabric after being washed, they might do it at the dry cleaners…debbie
OH no! I wash at least twice- I know a bit overkill but seriosuly soemtimes it takes a couple a shrinks!
Oh Rats! Not good, at all…..sucks large! It was beautiful though, you can fix it I'm sure…..
First visit to your blog, very nice! What a talent you have!

now, onto your fabulous ottoman slipcover… i sure do loooove it. high-water length and all. 😉
your blog makes me so badly want to finally open the sewing machine i got for Christmas, and, learn how to use it. sigh*
Just wondering . . . is there a trick to washing and drying yards and yards of fabric. When I have done it, it just seems to get all twisted up and super wrinkled. I am about to get my nerve up to cover a cute love seat I got at the Salvation Army. If I do I'll let you know! You are an inspiration.

Wow, you are so talented! I've made 2 slip covers and they both look “OK” but not as professional as i would like.
I may have to get your ebook to learn more!
Thanks!
Do what The Nester does and glue some fringe to the bottom!!
