Today, I cleaned and oiled my sewing machine…and my embroidery machine. I am ashamed to say that this is actually the first time I’ve cleaned and oiled them both…in their lives. Now they are purring like kittens and sewing like buttah! It was quite easy and not as complicated as I thought. I pulled out my sewing manual…and followed the directions. What.a.concept. If you don’t have your manual, I found a couple of different how-to’s…on ehow and Tarilyn’s Show and Tell
So start now with a clean sewing machine…it will love you for it!
Good reminder. 🙂 I received the cutest little Singer tin from my hub's grandparents for Christmas, and it has some cleaning/repair items inside for my machine. I just need to figure out how to use 'em. The manual would be a good place to start, huh? 😉
I recently bought a new sewing machine because my hand-me-down 1967 singer was slowing down. I bet it just needed to be cleaned. I should have looked into that!
Now this is something I'm actually afraid to do myself. I'm good with oiling my embroidery machine, but my sewing machine and surger…that's a different story. You mean there's more to it than just blowing them off with canned air, he he!!
thank you for this reminder 🙂 i was just sort of getting used to my machine's clicking 🙂
Oh yeah that's something I definitely need to do. Two sewing machines and a serger. I'm so bad about not cleaning them. Thanks!
Handmade Housewife,
At least you used canned air…I would just blow the dust out and keep on going…
must do this,, mine has NEVER been cleaned or oiled.. and its at least 15 years old.. thanks
Awesome idea! My machines got such a workout over the holidays, they deserve a little TLC. Happy New Year!
