As I sit here and think about “Should I make new year’s resolutions or not”…I’m trying to think about the past year and what I’ve learned and what I want to do and become in this next year! So I decided on “New Year’s Thoughts” rather than “resolutions.” I really feel like there are surprises to come this year on our journey. Just a few things I’ve been thinking about:
to be more green
live simply
learn to play my guitar…or at least a few chords so we can sing campfire songs
love God more than people and institutions
really, really, really…get to know the Jesus of the Bible
obviously…work out
to not live in fear or play the “what if” game…just go & do
educate my kids consistently & purposefully
do something that scares the heck out of me
Some quotes I’m going to try to live by this year:
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” ~Maria Robinson
“Regrets are a waste of time. They are the past crippling you in the present.” ~Katherine – Under the Tuscan Sun
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.” ~Paul -Philippians 3:13 (NLT)
Do you see the running theme??? I am in essence a Negative Nelly, Debbie Downer (SNL) with the personality of Eeyore…Thank goodness my husband is my polar opposite! My goal is to focus on the good and grateful and help my kids to do the same. Can’t wait to see what this year brings!
You can do it! (That is the eternal optomist in me cheering you on.)
What a wonderful post. I love your blog and enjoyed your “thoughts” idea instead of “resolutions.” Cindy
I struggle with negativity as well – always assuming the worst, and deciding that things can’t work! And like you, too, I love to use Apostle Paul as an example of how my attitude should be. All things are possible with Christ, who strengthens me – even teaching my daughter to read!
Wow, I really love your quotes especially the one by Maria Robinson. Good luck with your New Year’s Resolutions!>Happy New Year.
Okay Eeyore…..we’ll be fast friends…’cause I’m more like Tigger. I can’t wait to meet you too and coming soon on my blog is the exact plaigarism of your craft table; been working on it a lot today. Can’t wait to ‘comb’ through some of your archives too. That’s what I love about blog friends…..you already sorta know each other before you ever meet. Have a blessed New Year!
I have absolutely fallen inlove with your blog! I read through the whole thing the other day! Soooo great – though I can’t believe you took your tree down so early. 🙂
I was in a bible study group a few years ago. We all decided that instead of focusing on the things that needed to be stoped – like smoking, or eating, etc.>That we would adopt new healthy habbits or actions that were postive. So what will we do vs what we must stop. It helped alot. So it sounds as though you are on the right track.>>Just came across your blog from Edie's blog. Love'd your photos from Christmas & your decorating projects. Looking forward to finding time to come back & read some more. Thanks!
Isn’t it the best complement when you see your ideas done (Edie) – such fun. Ok, I can help you learn the guitar, if you’ll help me with the sewing, deal? You think you can fit the machine in your suitcase for Blissdom?> SO EXCITED to be roomies. 🙂>Will you still love me if I am your polar opposite…yes, you’ll have to since my personality is probably like your hubby’s.
I saw you on the Nester…stopped by! Great post…perfect “goal” for the New Year!>-sandy toes
