Are you a taker owner or a keeper upper? I am a definite taker downer! Friday morning in my leopard slippers, I was outside taking down garland and lights in the brrrr cold. My living room is so teeny tiny that even my charlie brown christmas tree seemed to overtake it…so down it came. I know that some love to keep their lights up for New Year’s, but not I! I love taking down my tree as much as putting it up. Makes me feel ready for the New Year and what’s to come! I can’t wait for this New Year!
Are you sick of my thrift store terrarium yet? Just a small re-vamp.
Me and my lonely, cold freezing porch! Go Pirates! I know, you too, will be watching the Liberty Bowl on (the day after) New Year’s Day! Handmade Housewife will…she is a fellow Pirate!
Guess what I got for Christmas? And I already made clothes for her. It was an early one from me to me. I saved all my coinage through the year…all the laundry I did paid off…found coins in my hubby’s pockets and on a coupla occasions…found a $20. woo-hoo! So…are you a taker downer or keeper upper?
I’m usually a keeper upper but this year the only time I’ll have to get it all down will be this afternoon so down it comes! I love your blog even if I don’t comment much!
I am a keeper upper until after the New Year! If I could get away with it I would leave it up until Valentines….after all my tree is all red, clear and white. But I think hubby would have a heart attack if I did that! LOL
Keeper upper. I keep it decorated until the weekend of New Years. The kids love it and so do I. Alas, Christmas doesn’t last long.
Very cool post. I am a definite taker downer… normally I start a day or two after Christmas depending on family and travelling but this year when we got home on Christmas and the kids were in bed, I took all of the ornaments off of the tree and Mr. Dunbar drug it outside. Everything is packed away in their cozy boxes in the garage until next year. Again, what a fun post.
We usually are traveling after Christmas so we keep it up until travels have passed. I hate taking down all of the decorations. >>So tell me about your new christmas present…I got a Nikon D60 for Christmas and I LOVE IT!! Also came with some free classes that I have extra free tickets for if you want to join me for a class or 2.>>Happy New Year!
Seeing as we hosted a family Christmas party tonight, and have another celebration tomorrow, I am a leaver upper. I will probably try to get it down starting on Monday so I’ll have it all down by 1/1.>>Fun post!
A leaver upper…it’s so much work and SO cozy when it’s up. I wait as long as possible. Just read at the nester’s that you are going to blissdom. Wanted to pop over and meet you…it will be great fun, won’t it? Can’t wait.
Found your blog on the Nester’s comments and have been browsing your archives. I love your style and we seem to have lots in common. I just started homeschooling this year and love decorating and thrifting. And reading and music and theology. But anyhoo, my friend Leigh Ann and I are going to the conference and have room if you still need roomies. I took one look at your craft room and knew we’d be instant friends. Makes me wanna try to figure out what’s wrong with my sewing machine!! If you’ve already found roomies, maybe we’ll run into each other! Have a great holiday.>Edie
Good morning…I found your blog from Beth at Rambling Gal and I’m really glad I did! I added you to my favorites so I’ll be back to visit often! Stop by when you get a chance too!>>I’m definitely a leaver upper..partly because I can’t seem to muster up the energy to pack all the stuff away. Plus, I love my white lights and wish I could leave them up all year!>>Hugz,>Michele
I am definitely a taker downer! Great post; couldn’t agree with you more 🙂
ok I am definitely a taker downer but for some reason this year I am in a slump..Can’t get motivated..But I will.
I am normally a keeper upper. I have even been known to keep everything up until Valentine’s. YIKES! Christmas is my favorite time of year. Despite my typical desire to make this season last as long as possible, everything was down and packed away by 2 this morning. I have a very energetic 1 year old and couldn’t see getting everything put away with him around. Not to mention, my 5 year old daughter would have been trying to keep every ornament in her room instead of packing them away. A Venti Starbucks helped me get through last night and now I have leftover energy to do some crafty projects today. Thanks for all your fabulous inspiration. I am running to JoAnn’s to get a few supplies. Blessings to you all.
Our stuff goes up on St. Nicholas Eve (Dec 5) and comes down on 3 Kings Day (Jan 6). Honestly, I’d like to take it down now, because it’s hard to arrange our stuff around it (our household goods were FINALLY delivered last week), but it’s tradition and Indy would be so upset if I took it down now. I can last another week and a half though. >Hey, is that the D40 or D60? I can’t tell in the photo. I got the D60 about 4 months ago. I love her. She doesn’t have cool clothes though. I’ll have to work on that.
Yes! It is the D60 and I feel like I’m having a love affair!
Since the time up until December 24 is Advent, we don’t put the big emphasis on Christmas until Christmas Eve. So we keep ours up until Epiphany (January 6). At that point, we take it down. A lot of people here leave it up, though, and change out the decorations for Mardi Gras decorations. 🙂
I have been following your blog for a few months now and somehow missed that you are in NC (I don’t have a blog). I attended ECU (in the late 80’s) and now my daughter is there. >I am usually a taker downer, but this year I want to linger in the celebration a little longer. It has seemed more necessary to remember the true meaning of Christmas this year. >Sweet Blessings this New Year,>Maggie
definately a keeper upper! i just got my stuff up on the 18th so it is staying up at least until new years. possibly longer for the stuff in the house! haha! I know, i’m bad.
Mine’s staying up til New Years Day. Then it’s all put away while watching the Rose parade and football games. Tradition…Mimi
I sort of go back and forth, depending on what’s going on. I was 36 weeks pregnant last Christmas, so I was in full nazi/nest mode. ALL. STUFF. MUST. COME. DOWN.>>This year we have friends here until the new year, so we are enjoying the extended decor 😉>>I love my Nikon! I am so undeserving, as I don’t have a clue what I’m doing but I love her just the same! Have fun taking way too many pictures!
LOL…you’re too funny! You know I’ll be glued to the tube. We’ve already taught Noah how to say “Go Pirates!”>>I was a definate taker downer this year. It’s different every year, but the 80 degree heat wave we had after Christmas just made that 7 ft. tree seem twice as big. It came down yesterday along with everything else.>>I am soooo jealous of your new camera. That’s been on my wish list for a while. Have fun!>>-Hayley
Definitely a taker downer! 🙂 I love my Cmas stuff and I am sad to see Cmas already gone but I had to get that stuff down. It is so refreshing to get back to “normal” because before the Cmas things I had fall things so it has been a while! 🙂 I got a camera for Cmas too!
Most certainly a taker-downer! Not that I don’t love doing all the decorating at the beginning of the season, but after Christmas, I’m ready to get it all down!>By the way, we’ll be watching the Liberty Bowl, too! However, we will all be decked out in our Kentucky blue! 🙂
Just found your blog thru Kimba – love it.>I’m an ECU girl as well – Go Pirates!>I’ll definitely be back to it out some more.
I usually take it all down but this year, it’s still up…Gotta get motivated..I think now though that I will just leave it for this weekend.
Well I usually leave mine up a little longer than I did this year but with our kitten I had to get it down!!! Mine came down on Saturday! I LOVE it when it is up but it looks so fresh and clean since it is now down!
I am a keeper upper, but I am feeling so crowded and things are so dirty, that I need to take them down and clean. I always leave up a strand of lights or two. They are so pretty. I think this year I will keep up my village with lights for a while and take down the tree this weekend. CArol
I’m a taker downer! My house was Christmas free on December 26th! LOL! I’m just a huge fan of seasonal decorating..not sure why. Love your blog by the way! Keli
I’d have to say I’m a taker downer!!!
I’m a taker downer and a take aparter. I always get bitten by the cleaning/organizing bug after I take down the Christmas decorations. Love the flag!! My son is a Pirate too (class of 05).
I’m a keeper upper. My tree is still up. Dh is taking down outside decorations now. However, I’m in a complete organiz-y mode. Goals are up on my blog. Camera is ready to track my progress in 09… perhaps I should start with taking down 08 decorations. 😉
