My house can tend to be dark. It’s a very open space, but sometimes dark and I love light. I’m convinced I have SAD! I’ve been living with this paint color (white sage) for 4-5 years now…from house to house. I initially loved it, but it’s starting to wear on me and I have been growing weary of it, so I decided to paint my kitchen (2 days before hosting my family for Thanksgiving). Isn’t that when everyone should do a re-do?
I found this blue in the mis-tint section at Walmart (the Kilz brand paint). I also wanted beadboard, so I got 1 roll of beadboard wallpaper at Lowe’s ($19/roll) and put it up. Very simple…a little time consuming, but if I can do it, anyone can. The directions are on the inside of the label. I’m going to paint the beadboard white and I’m still trying to figure out if I can live with this color. It is much more saturated than I thought. It went on lighter, but dried much darker. I need a color to brighten my kitchen (not yellow). Any suggestions? Oh yeah, and if you click on the pictures, it will enlarge them and you can see how this ugly linoleum is pulling away from the wall. It’s starting to shrink all around the cabinets also. I wasn’t too worried about it, because we were eventually going to get hardwoods. That is out of the question right now. So, I’m going to lay these peel and stick vinyl planks by novalis. I also purchased them at Lowe’s. I put them in my laundry room right over the old linoleum (the golden oak). My friend put some down in her kitchen and you really can’t tell they’re not real wood…unless you got down on the floor and smelled them or wriggled around like a worm, I suppose. Happy Turkey Day!
Oh my! I'm in awe of your gumption to tackle a project like that so close to having people over but the results are fabulous. >>Please tell me more about the wallpaper. Your link to G&B turned up double rolls (cream color) for $5/roll. I've been wanting beadboard so so long but balked at the price. Is this stuff really textured or is it just a printed, one dimensional design? Once it's painted, does it come close to the real thing? Does it dent? Was there any special installation?>>From your pics your new wall color looks a lot like my current kitchen color. I picked it when I was 7 months preg and haven't found the perfect color to switch to, yet. I think it looks fab in your space.
It looks amazing!!! LOVE the color and the beadboard! It looks like the read thing!:) You deserve a round of applause!:) Lori
If you initially had the linoleum put down, it may be eligible for replacement. We once had linoleum that pulled away from the wall and the company replaced it. Obviously it is not supposed to do this!>>You wall looks wonderful and I love the idea of putting up the beadboard wallpaper. I will have to remember this!>>Frannycakes
The wall color is lovely. Could you do a white tile floor> That'd really brighten things up while keeping your pretty robin's egg blue walls.
I love that blue, it is almost the same color as my living room. Funny though, cause the green from the before pic is about the same color that is in my kitchen. >>Great minds think alike!
I love the blue! I’ve been daydreaming about a place in my house to put a color like that. I also suffer from SAD (I think!). >Happy Thanksgiving!
It looks great!! I love that color and didn’t know it until I saw it on your walls. And bead board in a roll!!??! I want some! *Smiles*
I love that new color! I painted our bathroom a very pale pale blue.>>My kitchen is a khaki color and I’m so tired of it. I love the idea of the beadboard wallpaper. I’ve never heard of that.
I love the color! I also lov ethe idea of the beadboard wallpaper! I have thought about putting some up some beadboard int he house, but that would mean getting the Husband to do that and that would take to long. I could do the wallpaper thing! 🙂
I love your project and am happy to see the beadboard wallpaper that someone's done up close & personal. I've seen this stuff over the last couple of years on some decorating boards & even ordered a sample last year (from Graham & Brown), so I have some big plans to use it too! Love the sample I got. Did you order yours from Lowes or did they have it in stock? I checked their for it & my store doesn't carry it. I'd love to be able to walk in the store & get it. I can't wait to try it out in a few places. >>I think your blue wall color is beautiful & what a great change!
The blue walls and white “beadboard” look fabulous – so fresh and cheery. Good job. – Martha
Okay, Love your blog name!! Love both the green and the blue and I don’t think I would have thought to put up beadboard wallpaper. Yours looks great!!>Elise>Oh, came by way of Lori’s…>Happy Thanksgiving!!
That looks amazing, and I love the blue! I had no idea there was a beadboard wallpaper product out there. And that flooring…wow! It’s so realistic looking. You’ll definately have to do a product installation and product review post on that. Happy Thanksgiving!>>-Hayley
i think the blue looks great. if you don’t want yellow, maybe you could add some bright red or orange accessories to really stand out from the blue.
I LOVE the color and I’d like to use that in my bathroom with black accessories!>I used textured wallpaper to cover ugly laminate cabinets and it worked great!
Wow–you did a great job–I love it. I am so like you–I love to redecorate before company comes or I have an event. But, I prefer to wait until the last minute to do it (ok I don’t really prefer that, but it seems to be the motivation I need!).
Wow, so great. I have spots for beadboard picked out all over my house. I’m gonna go look at that wallpaper. So much easier and it looks great in your picture. Mimi
Your new kitchen looks great. I would love to know more about the beadboard wallpaper.
Now, that is one delightful makeover! and the thought of you taking it on just two days before Thanksgiving gave me a big grin, I know that feeling of just wanting to get it DONE!>>i’m also intrigued by the beadboard paper, what a great idea! I’ve been wanting to use it in my downstairs powder room and am definitely going to check it out at Lowe’s.>>You asked about using another color with the blue? How about apple green? >>Found your blog through A Beach Cottage by the way… I have a garden blog, and love discovering other home and garden blogs.
Love the new color! It is perfect!
I like it. I think it looiks great. You are brave to tackle such a big project so close to thanksgiving. >>Is the chalkboard a real board or the paint on chalk board? I love it.
Your new blue color and bead board make me happy!!! Keep it how it is…it looks great, refreshing and fun! I wish it was my kitchen, pealing linoleum and all.
Do a mirror grouping on the walls…it will open and light’n up the space!!
I love the idea of the beadboard wallcovering as I can install it myself while the hubby is at work! I RAN to Lowe’s to get some and they don’t carry it but said that if I provide them with the item number or the “special order sku#” they can order it for me. Do you by any chance have the item number for that (maybe on your receipt?). I LOVE your blog, you are so creative and so inspiring!! Thank you!
