I have had five tables in this space. You just tweek it til you get it right. I had this table before. The legs kept getting in the way. I don’t even know if it’s right…now. It’s good enough though.
I bought this pedestal table at the thrift store and painted it green and then glazed it. Hated.it. So one afternoon I took a couple of cans of black spray paint to it. Moved it in that night. I swear by Krylon spray paint. I used black satin.
I am turning my dining room into an office/library because in the 2 years we’ve lived here…we’ve only eaten in there once. And that was because I was painting this table. I’ve hosted Christmas with all my family for the past two Christmas’ and we never used the dining area. So…office/library it is! Remember what it looked like when I moved in? Sometimes you just have to live with the house for awhile to figure out how you use it.
I have big plans and want to paint horizontal grey stripes on the walls like Decor Adventures did here. And spray paint a chandy…yellow…amongst some other things. I feel like funkifying everything with turquoise and yellow. I think I’m channeling my inner Edie. What have you tweeked in your home for your family’s best use?
Long time lurker, first time commenter, love your blog.
I just converted our dining room this weekend into the music room/Mom's office/command central. It's right in the middle of our house, you have to walk through it to get from any one room to another and we rarely ate in there. It works much better for our family this way.
I really want a round table …suddenly! Love it!
Love that you've had 5 tables in that space! That is something I would do. When we recently moved, we sold our formal dining room set and are now using our new “dining room” as a den, someday to be converted into part of our kitchen. We, too, never used our dining room so decided to make better use of the space. Can't wait to see what you do with yours.
We've only had two tables in the 3oyears we've been married. The first one was just like the pedestal table you painted. It was yellow, then blue. Then we purchased a heavier starburst woodgrain pedestal table and chairs and said goodbye to the original pedestal. Oh, how I wish I still had that table.. All you blog ladies have me itching to paint furniture. The starburst will probably get a coat of paint soon.
I've wanted a round kitchen table since I was a kid, my bff's family had one. Channeling your inner Edie is a good thing…go for it!

See ya at Blissdom!! Jessica
I love black furniture. Love the valances. Did you make those? I have 6 picture windows in my breakfast room and have never committed to doing anything with them b/c they are so close together. That would work!!
I love the new table and the window treatments. I agree, keep trying until you like it. I think that's why I don't spend too much money on end tables and tables in general. I try to find pieces that I can fix up. We have only lived in our house for 5 months and we are on our second kitchen table. Ugh! Sounds like you will be making better use of the dining room. Can't wait to see the room complete. I like the two toned paint effect. I'm thinking my sunroom would make a great office/sitting room. It would probably get used more.
Thanks for the great post!

Great tweeking (table change)!!! I tweeked alot this last weekend, namely family room and big screened T.V…..now just need to get it up on my blog. Can't wait to see you funkify/tweek the dining room/office.
I 100% agree that it takes awhile to figure out how you use your house. We've moved as a couple three times in our short 1 1/2 year of marriage and each time it takes me forever to figure out how things are going to work. Like the kitchen cabinets that I JUST reorganized…and still don't like. Lol. I guess that's just how it goes for awhile.
I am a bit of a table hound myself. I feel like I am buying tables all the time. I have a dining room we have not even furnished yet. I thought about making it a library/sitting room instead.

Hey, I changed out my awesome dining room (based on the movie Something's Gotta Give) to a library a couple of months ago. I do love the change. Now I get a ton of use out of a room that was once permanently “staged.”

Extending Shelf Life
Thanks for the inspiration! I recently turned our dining room (which was previously our reading/music room) into my sewing room and I love it! Great light and room to work and I can keep track of my boys in the family room. I just have to share it with our dogs who like the view from the front window!
I'm with you on the tweaking! I'm a chronic wall re-painter. I tweaked my front room color four times till I got it right. I think your table looks great!
I am a tweaker but within reason. My husband is not near as tolerant as yours. BTW- Love that your new curtians. I tried burlap myself and hated them. Totally overrated.
Also, how many cans of spraypaint did it take you to paint the chairs and table?
I love those gray stripes…super cute.

Pink, I absolutely love love love those shades and matching chairs. You are so crafty, it is truly inspiring. Keep up the good work, cant wait to see what you do next.
I'm in the process of tweaking my kitchen. Again.
I'm right there with you, except my philosophy is tweak till you get it right “now”. Then tweak again when you're ready for a change ; )
Love the idea of the gray stripes with some yellow!
We are in the middle of turning our sunroom from a family room into a playroom/schoolroom and our living room into a family room. I don't know why we didn't do this 2 years ago!
Hi Kristi,
Thanks for showing my stripes! I still need to decorate that room. But like you, it's trial and error until I like it.
Love the slipcover stories, I will definitely need to try some of my own soon.
