If this had happened on a brand new couch that I purchased from a huge furniture store. I would’ve freaked! This is why I love to reuse and recycle furniture. THIS is why I love my white slipcovers! Not only did it get on the chair, it splattered on the ottoman in front. This all happened as we were walking out the door. It had to sit there for a couple of days before I could get to it. I was sure it wouldn’t come out. Guess what? IT DID! I just threw it in the wash with my detergent and bleach and WahLah! No more red stain! Did I tell you how much I love my white slipcovers? I love them! What’s the worst thing that’s happened to your furniture?
I've got white slipcovers on my couch and 2 chaises and couldn't live without them! They've survived through a muddy dog, chinese glow-in-the-dark takeout sauce, pizza – you name it! And they're still looking brand new! Try that with a normal sofa! : )
you've totally got me converted. i have white slip covers on 2 chairs and chaise (from ikea) and i was always trying to cover them up with blankets and such so the kids couldn't dirty them, until i remembered- thanks to you- the magic of bleach. now they are free game and i am not worried a bit. i've washed them up a handful of times and each time they come out pretty and new looking. so thankful to you for sharing your real life and white slipcover stories. Thanks!!
I'm loving your blog! Such inspiration… I'm thinking about slip covering my own over-stuffed sofa. It'll be my first time, but I have reupholsterd before so I have some clue. I'm wondering if you think that prewashed drop cloths might work??? It's kind of the oatmeal/off white color I'm thinking about…just wondering about the weight of it for a first timer? Any ideas?

I have an office chair with dark lue wool upholstery. My youngest once barfed milk down the back rest – I can't get it out, it's a 5″x 10″ spot.
Oh I'm so glad to see this real life picture! I just finished a white slipcover for My couch and it took me so long I've been a little bit of a nazi about keeping my daughter off of it. I'll back off and let the poor girl live on it because if that stain can com out after days, anything can!
I got black sharpie scribbles out with a few rounds of bleach and dishsoap!
I've always wondered how stains come out of the white slipcovers… what fabric did you use and do you treat it with anything to block stains?
My youngest daughter took a black pen and wrote all over my my covers. I just threw them in a hot wash with detergent and oxi-clean and the pen marks were all gone! I love my white slip covers : )
I am so not looking forward to this happening to my new wing chair slipcover but I'm confident that if you got your stain out…I, too will be able to. Just hope it doesn't happen the first week after finishing it!

I can't wait to make slip covers for my rocking chair and ottoman, that ssems to be my cat;s favorite place to throw up!
I have had company for the whole weekend. A group of young boys with their family. Am I worried about my slipcovered furniture? Nope, for the same reason as you, throw it in the wash.
I wondered how that works with kids! I really want to slipcover my furniture including my kitchen chairs. My pretty toile kitchen chairs are stained and ugly! Too bad I don't know to sew.
My two year old and the children of my husband's best friend are the worse thing to happen to my furniture.
Oh, and me going all PETA on my hubs and not declawing my cats.
Slipcovers are calling my name!
this is why my baby never ever was given anything red! to drink or eat! she never had ketchup or tomato sauce in spaghetti until she was older. we laugh about it now, but red juice? NEVER!!!!
I can't believe you got it out – but that's the beauty of slipcovers. bleach it baby.
Yeah for slipcovers!!!!
We spilled half a glass of red wine on a sofa once (not slipcovered) and I used a winemakers trick and poured a glass of white wine on it immediately followed by lots of dabbing with white wine soaked sponge and then plain water until it all came out.
It works, white wine gets out red wine.
Thank you so much for showing us this! I really wanted to know that you can have spills and accidents and live through it with white slipcovers.
This Spring I purchased 2 ivory slipcovers from Sure Fit, with two puppy dogs and lots of guests this Summer they have saved my light spa blue chairs! Plus I love the beachy casual look they have given the room. Never has used slipcovers before, but now I'm a huge fan.
CASCADE is also a great whitening agent! I had an old doily that was discolored and had a few mildew spots on it. I soaked it over night and to my surprise it was white as could be the next morning. I scrubbed on the small mildew spots and they nearly disappeared too. Do not use Cascade on colors – my daughter found out the hard way. She thought she could soak anything to get a stain out. =)
