About piping…when I’m pinning around a corner, I snip the edge of the fabric to give it more flexibility to curve around said corner. I think this last slipcover cushion I sewed for my camper is the BEST one I’ve ever made! I love it! So here’s a youtube video on piping. There are many more. Just go to youtube and type in “How to sew piping”. You will get a ton of videos…even how to sew piping into a round pillow.
I was trying to make a video, but I have about 457 things on my list today before we leave for out Annual Camping Trip to the Outer Banks…and I have until 4PM to do it! But I wanted you guys to have this info. Hope it helps! Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
**Also don’t forget to enter the UGLY sofa contest! The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Fabric.com. And if you’re local, maybe some slipcover help from moi!
Great Tutorial! I'm hoping to learn to sew this summer! I'd love to do some home decor sewing and this tutorial should help once I have learned the basics, that is. ;p
I only have one more question on sewing slipcovers. It's about the only thing keeping me from even starting actually….how do you pre-wash your fabric if you don't know what size your pieces will be? I have bolts of white cotton duck to cover my couch but I can't wash it all in one piece but I also don't want to cut it up only to find out I have to piece it together later to get a piece big enough to cover what I need. Any advice? Do you 'pre-cut' and then wash? or what?
Kristi @Creative Kristi,
I cut my bolt of 15 yds in half and then wash them each separately. Just make sure you don't cut shorter than the length of your sofa!
