A friend just asked my advice about painting. She has an open floor plan of the kitchen, living room and dining room. She asked if she should paint it all one color or could she do some different colors for each room. What do you think?
You can paint several different colors…as long as they are all from the same color family. Nothing too bold. No watermelon or lavender…which was in my own personal home before I painted. Don’t believe me…go here to see the watermelon dining room. And here to see the Green sponge painted bathroom. Now both the dining room and the bathroom are a serene Ocean Dream color.
What I mean is this: I picked several colors from the same paint line called Seaside Retreat from Lowe’s. And No they’re not paying me to say this. I really love this line. It cost a bit more, but it’s worth it. The paint is thicker and I only needed one coat. So, Stay in the same family of colors. Here is the color palette in my home:
See how they all flow together, nothing too outrageous. They may be boring to some, but to me I can hear the ocean calling me and it calms my soul. I haven’t done the Master Bedroom yet. Do you know how hard it is to find a gray paint that’s just right? This is my 3rd sample can. I think this is it >”Dolphin Cove.” Right now my bedroom is a gross green and it’s dark and dreary. I can’t wait to lighten it up.
Go here and chose a photo of a room to test your color choices online? How cool is that? Also, you’ll be able to choose your color palette from a myriad of paint lines…like the one I did above. When I walk into my home, I want to feel calm and serene. Sometimes, I think I can smell the ocean. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Is choosing paint as emotional for you as it is for me?
I am loving your paint colors…Not boring to me….Simply Beautiful…

I love your color palette!! Very soothing and welcoming. 🙂
love your color palette. In our last home I painted and loved it all. This house – eh, I just can't decide what I want to do. My youngest son wants a black bedroom – I do know that's not happening!
LOVE the color palette. I am looking to redo my bedroom in these colors. Thanks for sharing! Looks great!
Such a wonderful, calming, make me take a deep breath color palette!
I'm working on my colors for my new house and this is lovely!
I love your paint color, so relaxing and calm.
Thanks for sharing these. We are in the process of buyng a new house and it has fresh white builder walls. These colors are ones I love and will be a good guide for our new adventure. Anybody want to buy a cute house in NoKY?
thank you for the color advice! i'm an artist and when it comes to wall color i tend to go too bold. i love color! but that watermelon has made me think again as we decide on paint for our guest room. thank you! xoxo, juliette
I love the palette you chose. Very sophisticated!
Oh my goodness, can I move into your house?!? This is fabulous. Look at you, talented girl! Love it! (:
Those are very similar colors to the ones in my home. Love them! 🙂
Beautiful palette! Definitely calm, serene and not boring. Grays are hard. Decorpad has a lot of good pictures of gray bedrooms. Grays usually have blue, green, or lavendar undertones. Do you want an undertone or just black mixed with white? Good luck, and can't wait to see it!
Love your colors and I agree with you that the paint is great! Our living room is painted in the Light Khaki color and I love it. We just painted our daughters room the Dolphin Cove which is amazing! Sometimes it looks blue and other times gray. It is such a calming color.
I've just stumbled across your blog as I'm getting ready to slipcover a chair and trying to get inspired before diving in… but what really has me laughing is that I believe I have the exact same dining table set you have, except I haven't painted mine black…yet! Just borrowed a friends paint sprayer to tackle the job soon. In natural, it is really dated, with a dated fabric to boot, but looking at yours I'm totally inspired to start the project. Did you do anything special when you painted it? Do you have other photos you can share?
I may just be going to Lowes right now for some ocean dream… soooo beautiful!
