I found this cute breakfast table & chairs at a thrift store. One of the chairs was red and the table top was also green. I really wanted a cute “pottery barn-like” table for my girls to do ‘stuff’ at! But, once again, I ain’t paying the price! So I got this home, painted the table top & chairs to match in an antique white. Then I looked in the pottery barn kids catalogue to see what the height measurements were for their kid table & chairs…I measured and used my trusty jigsaw to cut the legs right off my breakfast set! All the legs are miraculously level & DON’T wobble at all! I was so excited! And…my girls don’t even use it…they’d rather sit at the dining table & mark it all up (thank goodness for the magic eraser). So I’m using it as a coffee table right now & for family movie/pizza night!
BTW…thanks for all the comments & for entering the giveaway! Can’t wait to choose the winner!
Hi,>I just recently found your blog. So I was going through some of your old post. On March 20th you had a post that had white slip covers. I have looked all over and all I can find are natural colored, but no white. I need one for a love seat that I adore but needs a pretty new covering in my sunroom. If you can tell me where I might can find one that would be just amazing! >Sweet Blessings, >Margaret
Margaret,>I’m too cheap to buy slipcovers! I actually made my slipcovers! I’m going to do a post soon about how I made them. It’s white cotton duck fabric that I washed & dryed & then cut to size. You can usually go to a local fabric store & find a seamstress who sews custom slipcovers…there are lots of biz cards. I was quoted $300 for a custom slipcover for my sofa & I also had to provide the fabric…so I just did it myself.
Hi! I also just recently found your blog and love it! Did you just cut the legs off of the chairs as well? I found a table for my girls playhouse last year that I paid very little for but have yet to find small chairs that will fit under it. I’m thinking that maybe now I’ll just use this idea instead!
Darcy,>Yes, I cut the legs off the chairs also! Even if you have two mis-matche d chairs, just paint them the same color to unify them. They’ll have so much character!
How completely brave of you!! This table is Cute CUTe CUTE!!! Love it!!>>Have a Blessed day,>Dawn
I love your creativity and the way you get just the perfect look without breaking the bank!! So super cute!!!>>Michele>luvkittysmeowmail@gmail.com
I love your new table and chair set! It’s adorable sitting in front of the couch like that too. I’m sure your girls will eventually use it. Old habits are hard to break sometimes. I actually like your table and chairs better than the Pottery Barn set because yours doesn’t look “mass produced”. Yours looks more authentic and cottagey. Another great project you did! Thanks for sharing.>>Kelly
What a sweet set…I could live without my jigsaw!
I own a jigsaw that has never been used. It’s time to look around my house for things to…um… adjust. 🙂
Okay, that is the cutest thing ever!!! Don’t you just LOVE what a coat of white paint will do??? … Donna
I *adore* that little table and chairs set you found! Sooo sweet! Our coffee table came from Goodwill and was actually a small solid wood dining table. I cut the legs down, too, and no one would know the differece. Lolo,, my kids actually dance on it andnd pretend they are putting on a show. Can’t beat solid wood tables from the thrift store!
What a great idea! I never would have thought of that! I still have a picture from a magazine saved from years ago, that had a long narrow bench as the coffee table, and then 5-6 little wooden chairs along one side. I love creating space for the little ones in “big people rooms.”
Great idea…I also drool over those adorable table sets at Pottery Barn. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for something similar that will work.>I did notice that one of your posts said that you *MADE* your slipcovers. I’ll be waiting for your post about how you do that. It sounds terribly hard, so I’m hoping that you’ll show me otherwise!
