I always prewash my fabric in HOT water and dry it on the hottest settings before making the first cut into my fabric to create my white slipcover.
I have a dog and 2 kids that play soccer. And they…and all their paraphenalia are always dirtying up my white slips. In the past, I would rip them off and throw them in the wash with detergent and bleach. It works everytime…even with red wine. I’ve also started washing them in cold water instead of hot which saves a little on the electric.
Lately, I’ve been using this Arm & Hammer with Oxi Clean.
And boosting my laundry with borax which says it’s an all natural boran mineral /salt mixture from the mines. It seems to be less harsh on the fabric. It seemed that using bleach…although will get them white was harsher on the fabric and it would wear through quicker. Just from my experience.
Also, if you’re lazy like me and having a great time with friends on your white sofa drinking red wine…AND you don’t rip it off immediately…spray a little zout on your stain and let it sit for a few minutes and then throw it in.

We use Oxi-Clean too – we have a huge box we get from BJs and I add a scoop to every load… with dogs & teens it's necessary. I've heard people add salt to homemade detergent because it acts as a softener – I think I'll try the Borax.
