She is MY dog. Yes, we originally got her as a family…but it was only on the condition that I was ready. So, the day came when I was ready and we found her at a local animal shelter. She had been dropped of in the cat box in front…she was small. I plopped my $20 bucks down and took her home.
She doesn’t like men…fireworks…or gunshots. She barks at the mailman, UPS man and any man that rolls up in my yard…as if she’s going to go all CUJO on them! Things that make you go hmmm? I often wonder if she was abused by a man because she wouldn’t hunt for him. There have only been about 3 men she seems remotely comfortable around.
She is anxious. She won’t eat in a stressful environment {when I go out of town and leave her with my ex}. I free-feed her. She fluctuates between 19-21 lbs. If she accidentally gets out…she bolts as if she’s running from a mob of zombies. I’ve chased her down barefoot in a dress through neighboring yards. I love her to pieces and I’m so grateful that I have her. She is my DOG.
We had a beagle for 11 years. Annie was a humble, sweet dog who loved well. We miss her so much.
Beagles are special! Ours, however, has attached herself to my husband – he gets the rock star welcome when he gets home from a trip, so funny to watch 🙂
I love Ally, she's a sweetheart! I was shocked to learn about how hunting dogs are treated out here, it breaks my heart. (I say “out here” because we don't really have hunting dogs in Calif.) So glad she has a mama like you now ♥
I thought you were not spending money in September…$20 for a dog. Don't get me wrong I thinks it's great you found her, but how does that affect your no money budget?
Dear Anonymous,
I did not spend $20 on Ally (my dog) this month. I spent $20 on her over 4 years ago. You can read all about it here
