This is worth reposting every year…Are you a taker owner or a keeper upper? I am a definite taker downer! Friday morning in my leopard slippers, I was outside taking down garland and lights in the brrrr cold. My living room is so teeny tiny that even my charlie brown christmas tree seemed to overtake it…so down it came. I know that some love to keep their lights up for New Year’s, but not I! I love taking down my tree as much as putting it up. Makes me feel ready for the New Year and what’s to come! I can’t wait for this New Year!
Are you sick of my thrift store terrarium yet? Just a small re-vamp.
Me and my lonely, cold freezing porch! Go Pirates! I know, you too, will be watching the Liberty Bowl on (the day after) New Year’s Day! Handmade Housewife will…she is a fellow Pirate!
Guess what I got for Christmas? And I already made clothes for her. It was an early one from me to me. I saved all my coinage through the year…all the laundry I did paid off…found coins in my hubby’s pockets and on a coupla occasions…found a $20. woo-hoo! So…are you a taker downer or keeper upper?
Edit: My tree came down yesterday and everything Christmas is, nearly, put away. I’m ready for a new year.
I'm a taker downer too. My son's birthday is on Dec. 30, so it gives me a great excuse to get the Christmassy stuff outta here. I would take it down regardless as I too like to bring in the new year fresh.
We're keeper uppers. We cut our Christmas tree fresh the day after Thanksgiving and get our entire home decorated that weekend. You can see some of our decorations on my blog here:

Then we enjoy it til the New Year and take it all down. I love re-claiming my space after January 1st, but have to admit, my house looks a bit naked without all the sparkle.
Put me in the camp with the Taker Downers. Our middle daughter's birthday is January 1, and I always wanted everything Christmas gone by then so we could celebrate just her birthday, without Christmas lingering around to spoil the Birthday mood. She has grown up and moved to another state now, but I still get the Christmas decorations outta here within a few days of Christmas. Tomorrow may just be the day this year.
I'm definitely a taker downer. The day after Christmas everything starts to go. I enjoy the color and sparkle before the holiday because of the anticipation, but once that's gone, so are the decorations.
Down down down it comes tonight. I usually would have it done the day after but instead I thought i would shop and so today I finally am organizing toys getting them off my floor and I start the packing up tonight so I can deep clean in the morning. I will be one happy girl tonight when I crawl into bed. 🙂
Usually I'm a keeper-upper. I LOVE Christmas and enjoy all of the decorations through New Year's Eve. This year though I decided to take it down early. I spent today taking down all of the decorations and putting up a wintery mantle decor. However, that was just because I got new mercury glass pillars at Target and I wanted to show them off!
I'm a keeper upper. We're usually traveling for Christmas, so I like a little extra time to enjoy my own decorations. 🙂
We are a Keeper Upper. Although my birthday is Dec 30th and some would take down everything, I love all the lights and decor. Mainly because it is a little depresssing taking everything down. It feels so naked for a while and it makes me happy! We also have a New Years Party and don't have time to take down inbetween!
Hope you had a Merry Christmas
I use to be more of a keeper upper, but I am becoming more of a taker downer. I still have things up, but every minute i am thinking when i should take it down.

Oh, I am a real “downer” all right- the day after, and whoosh, they are down!
We observe Advent, so for us, Christmas has just gotten started good. We put up an Advent wreath Thanksgiving weekend. We put up our tree with simple lights and our nativities around Dec. 6 for St. Nicholas day, but we don't do the big decorating until the Sunday before Christmas. So ours hasn't been up that long and we're enjoying it!
I'm a first time visitor to your blog – your post title pulled me in because I was thinking about doing one very similar. I really really am a taker downer, but I was raised to believe that anyone who put their tree at the curb right after Christmas was somehow not right. I started pulling things down and moving little bits up to the boxes but I'll have to wait till the day after New Years to officially put the holiday behind me.
Thanks for putting your post out there – it lets me know I'm not a bad person/the only person just because I'm ready to move on to a new beginning 🙂

this year I can going to be a keeper upper!! it is all so great and feels like I just got everything how I want it! I also host Bunko in january this year and want it to look nice and festive so will keep everything up!!
I am for sure a taker downer! I never seemed to get in the mood this year and so I got everything put away today. Hoenstly I wanted to yesterday but I was dealing with a sick kid. I'm always ready to get my house ready to be marganized starting the new year!
It was officially taken down this afternoon (Monday)…would of been down sooner but had one more Christmas to go to on Sunday and my husband was fishing until noon on Mon. but once he was home I put him right to work putting the boxes of Christmas stuff away in the garage!! My house is too small to celebrate Christmas any longer!!!
Taker downer, for sure. The minute Christmas is over, my mind turns toward cleaning out and organizing. I love to start the new year with the everything in order.
So you're a pirate huh? My son is an App boy. But we are transplants so not sure what team to cheer for. Hubby won't cheer for anyone but University of Texas- go longhorns.
I'm a taker downer…I tried to start Christmas evening but the family said no- so we are doing it tomorrow.

Downer. I put it up at Thanksgiving and my house is small. I feel like the walls are coming in on my by christmas. I need my space back, I'm smothering!
I'm a keeper upper. I love Christmas and hate when it ends. The few days after Christmas we usually spend being lazy, hanging out in our pjs all day, playing with our gifts. Usually stuff comes down right after the new year but this year the tree has already had to come down. It was getting to be a fire hazard!
My daughter's birthday is on January 2nd and I've never worried about Christmas spoiling the birthday mood. She actually loves that her birthday is right after Christmas. Although, with getting a real tree every year the tree is always down by then because it's usually dried out by Christmas.
I totally get your the idea of wanting to get things down to start the new year fresh. It's nice to ring in the new year with a clean house!! Usually I ring in the 2nd week of the new year with a clean house 😉
I keep up the outside lights until New Year's but that's because we have extensive decorating outside. My husband staples each side of each C9 light to the roof lines of the house and I do everything else. All the inside stuff comes down as fast as I can do it with 4 kiddos.
I'm a keeper-upper, but my hubby is a taker-downer. He wins usually (mostly because we get our tree early in December and it is a total fire hazard the day after Xmas and wouldn't be safe to keep until New Year's). I do like a fresh start though 🙂
We normally wait until the New Year to take down the Christmas stuff, but this year, we took it down the day after. Felt good to have my living room put back together. 🙂
I'm with you, a definite taker-downer. The tree goes out to the curb on December 26, and everything is all clean. I love to get rid of a mess. 🙂
I didn't put out too much this year so it wan't take long to put it away. I'll be editing all Christmas decor, and will be including said edits in a yard sale come spring. Can't wait!(for the yard sale, that is..)
I usually leave everything up and the outside lights on until New Year's. It used to be my tradition to take the tree down New Year's Day. But, this year is different. I'm really tired of “Christmassy Stuff” and ready to move on to what's next. Everything is down, tree undecorated and ready to put back in the box.
I'm definitely a take it downer! I had the stuff down the day after Xmas! I even put up a few Valentine's decos! For me the magic of Christmas is gone the day after 🙁 Until next year…
Taker downer this year. We have a new baby and I go back to work on Monday so the tree came down the DAY AFTER!
Taker-downer!! I'm with you, I love taking down my tree just as much I love putting it up. We put up our Christmas decor the day after Thanksgiving, so by the time the day after Christmas rolls around, I'm ready to have my home back to the way it was. Although, this year I've had a hard time taking my wreaths out of the windows. Tommorrow, though, they are coming down!!
Hope you have a great day!
Beth.
