I’m not much for making New Year’s Resolutions…I guess I’m rebellious like that. However, I’m feeling the need to make some School Year’s Resolutions. This summer has been a little hectic and out of the norm with my Aunt Pearl passing and 2 of the 4 of us having the chicken pox {not at the same time, I might add}. I’ve been waking up at around 3AM…for some reason and have not been able to go back to sleep. So I’ve used it to have a little convo with God. I figure He’s the one waking me up.
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
1) Do something for my spiritual & physical well-being every day.
2) No computer in the morning, until kids leave for school.
3) Give complete undivided attention to kids from the moment they get home from school. {This means if I’m in the middle of painting a room or sewing a slipcover, I stop. That’s it.
4) Prepare dinner early in order to help with homework.
Have you made any school year’s resolutions?
I always feel better about it if I make resolutions in Sept. probably something about it being the beginning of school that ingrained it in us that it's a new 'year' lol I like your resolutions and I think they are good ones! Keep us posted on how you do with them!
I think your resolutions are great! When I taught school, one of mine was always to pray for my students by name at least once a week. Now I stay at home with my two little guys (2 yrs. and 8 months) so the school year has no significance for us but it will regain it in a few years.
love this post! can i just copy your resolutions?? love ya!
I love that you shared that sometimes God does crazy things to get our attention… like waking you up at 3am. I have a 2nd & 3rd grader this year and I am teaching them to become more responsible. They are in charge of packing their snack bags and making sure it makes it to their backpacks.. also they have started learning how to do laundry. I have 4 children and so we do a lot of laundry. They actually enjoy it at this point {not sure how long that will last} It has helped me so much b/c it can get overwhelming trying to do everything around the house especially with school and sports. Also I feel great about teaching my boys how to do things in life that they could easily take for granted.. like clean clothes. They also sort the clothes and put their own stuff away.
i like this idea…i think i need to make some myself!
That is an awesome idea. I had never thought of that before. I always made my school year goals when I went to school. I will have to keep that in mind for when my baby starts.
Love your resolutions, especially the one about giving your kids your undivided attention, even when you are in the middle of a project. That can be so difficult for me. Have a great first week back!!
So true. I found last year that if I didn't use my time wisely during the day, I was irritable and a mess in the afternoon when I got the kids home. The key for me is no computer after they get home, to know what I am cooking for dinner, being present in the same room during homework, and having them take their baths before Dad gets home & dinnertime. Thanks for sharing yours and I love, love, love your Bible cover. Gonna have to bang out one of those!
Great resolutions… I always find it's hard to really tune in to the kids when there's so much domestic stuff awaiting. Thanks for the reminder about what's important!
Your resolutions need to be my resolutions!
Those are good. My oldest starts first grade in two weeks and I'm sure I'll be making very similar resolutions then!
I like to stay open to goal making any time of year and I do prefer the fall for some reason (maybe it is ingrained from all of those years of going to school?) Now that things seem to be picking up with my clothing business I have to make that extra effort to not let it get in the way of my time with the kids. Great post!
I think I will adopt your resolutions! As always, can't wait to see what you post about next!
My resolution is to stay on task (not get distracted) AND to be consistent. Good Luck, this was a great post.
