Remember this post…where I was so excited to paint my subfloor something cute-sy and fabulous?
This weekend I enlisted some true friends to come over and help me rip up my carpet. Didn’t take long at all! I did, actually do more than take photos.
When we ripped it up, it looked like this! It was OSB subfloor, NOT plywood. OSB looks like someone took a bunch of wood, put it in a wood chopper and then pressed it all together. It’s chippy and flaky and un-paintable! So, as much as I hate when people try to match fake hardwoods with real hardwoods…that’s what I did. Doesn’t look as bad as I thought. I keep reminding myself that it’s a temporary solution until we can get the real hardwoods for our living room. I will not go into debt for hardwoods! I will give you more detail and how to’s later. Until then here’s what I did to the kitchen floor of our old house.
such pretty hydrangeas – they look great against that turquoise mirror
as for the floor – that's too bad it was chipboard and not plywood – I can't wait to see what you come up with! : )
TAKE A LOOK AT MY FAUX HARDWOOD! IT'S SO EASY AND CHEAP!

We used the same stuff throughout our upstairs… I love it! We were on a super low budget and it was less then 1K to do the entire upstairs excluding the bathroom!Sooner or later we will replace them with the real thing or laminate or something more suitable to selling this house..but for now.. it is great.. I got the idea to use it from you blog a long time ago and I am so exicted that I did!!
it looks like i am giving the finger in that one where i am holding up the box cutter! LOL
Love to see what you do. I have recently painted our subfloor, just a basic solid color. Like you waiting to afford the real deal. So I am always interested in what others do for a solution.
ooooh how gratifying was it to rip out that carpet? Even if you were disappointed with what was underneath, I know you'll make it fabulous!
i actually did paint osb. it was the floor in my kids' playhouse and i had no other options. i painted it with two coats of porch paint and it looks fine.
Loving those hydrangeas. One of my favorite flowers!!
Love love your hydrangeas! :o)
I simply can't take looking @ our 12 yrs old carpet any longer! Im planning on ripping it up & painting the osb underneath it a dark brown then doing a large scale damask stencil a few tones lighter & on a diagonal. Then I will hit it w/3 coats of poly. Trying it in my master bath first tho. Can't wait!
