Do your kids have jeans that look like this? My girl’s, pretty much, crawl around on their knees. Recycle and make the most of what you’ve got.
Cut your jeans…as long or as short as you want. Get your fabric, pom pom fringe and ric rac. Fat quarters are perfect for this.
Measure across, then double it and add 2 inches…or so. I cut my fabric 14″ Long x 6″ Wide.
Fold in half lengthwise and iron.
Fold one side to the crease line and iron. Do the same with the other side.
Then attach to the bottom of your jeans with pins…like a cuff. Half goes underneath and then comes up over.
You’ll have to remove a part of the machine in order to fit the leg on. I added the green ric rac as I sewed.
When you get all the way around, make sure to sew up and down where the seams meet. You can spring up the ends of skirts…or make yourself some capri’s. Have fun!
What a great idea! I usually do cut the worn out knees off, but I’d only let the children wear them at home. >By following your directions, they still could wear them to go out and we wouldn’t have lost yet another pair of pants.>Thanks so much!
These are fabulous!!!! Love your fabric choices too!
Such a cute idea. They turned out terrific. I need to do this to some of my jeans 😉
Wow!!!>What a cute idea, I’ll be all over this one! thanks
Now, this is an AWESOME idea! I don’t have any girls, but I sure could do this for my beat up jeans. Of course, they are my favorite knock around pants… but I am loving this idea!>~Misti
That is a cute idea! My 9 year old has so many jeans with torn up knees – she would love that!>>XOXO>Jen
Great idea!! My daughter’s jeans are always far too short by springtime, so this is the perfect solution. I posted a link to your tutorial on Craft Gossip Sewing Blog: http://sewing.craftgossip.com/tutorial-cut-o…h-spring-flairtutorial-cut-off-jeans-with-spring-flair/2009/03/13/>–Anne
Thanks for the idea. My girls are always wearing a hole in the knee of there jeans. This will be perfect to give them a little more life.
I just dug 2 pairs of Lulu’s jeans out of the trash!>Thanks for the inspiration!
Cute idea! Also a great way to turn jeans that your kids are going to outgrow by next fall into a staple they can wear for the summer! Might as well prevent them from being highwaters when you go through the closet for a back-to-school shopping list next fall.
Now how cute is that? Love this! Thanks so much for sharing!>>Hugs,>susan
really cute ideas. >>is the polka dot thing in pic, your ironing board cover? waaay cute!
Love this idea! So cute!
How cute – my daughter will totally love this and heaven knows we have enough holey jeans around.
Great idea. My son has at least four pair of jeans with holes at the knee that I will be cutting off to make “play” shorts. Stop by and visit my blog anytime.
How great! I will be doing this soon!…I received the travel mugs and they are fantasitc! Beautiful and so useful! Thanks so much!
I love this idea! I recently went to a mother daughter conference talking about modesty and this is a great cool alternative to trendy short shorts! Thanks for the great tutorial! The conference is called Secret Keeper Girl and I highly recommended it to anyone with young girls in the house!
How adorable. My daughter goes to a charter school so her pants are almost shot in the knees and getting too short. I’m going to see if these could fit in the dress code if I used school colors….hmmmmmmm.
These are adorable! Great instructions and pictures.
These are just too cute…my daughters would love to have me do these….now, will I? Still have to open the box to the sewing machine. 🙂
Okay, that is seriously awesome. How many little girls (and their moms) would go crazy over this idea?! Love this!!
So cute! Now I’m itching to go down to the consignment shop and find a cheap pair of jeans to cutsie up 🙂 Hopefully I’ll be in town soon and I’ll definately call you! These are adorable…great job!>>-Hayley
My daughter Hannah is so excited about this idea…I better get moving as it is 70 degrees today 🙂>Love it!>Janet>>http://itisanevolution.blogspot.com/
loved your instructions and your pictures! With 3 little girls of my own – I will be using what I learned from your blog!
I am going to try this to lengthen some of the shorts we have – hand-me-downs are great, but tall skinny kids need longer shorts!>>thanks for the tute!
