Fake your monogram

If you love the look of Monograms, but dont have an embroidery machine…you can fake it with a little freezer paper and some paint.

Print out your monogram and tape it down on the freezer paper (NOT the shiny side). I cut out each letter seperately to adjust them.

Use your exacto knife to cut out the letters.

Position your freezer paper on your shirt and iron-on. Make sure to put a piece of cardboard or stock paper between you shirt’s front and back…to prevent paint through. I used craft paint or you could use fabric paint. Using a small brush…paint in your monogram and then let it fully dry before peeling off the freezer paper.

After, I wanted to dress up the monogram a bit. I printed an oval shape from the computer, taped it to the freezer paper and cut it out. Iron on the oval shape (shiny side down) over the monogram. Use a small brush to paint the outline along the oval. You could just cut out the oval and then cut the monogram letters out of the oval shape. Let it dry completely before peeling off the oval.

You could also monogram a pillow case or a piece of fabric and frame it. The options are unlimited…

  1. I love freezer paper stenciling! I hadn’t thought to monogram a pillow – yet another project to add to the list!p.s. Is that polka dot in the background your ironing board cover? If so, where did you get it – I want it!

  2. Very cute idea girl! You know these would be great on baby onesies as gifts as opposed to embroidery with scratchy backs. I’ve got 2 preggers friends right now that would jump all over one 🙂 Do they wash well?-Hayley

  3. Seriously, I’m off to get freezer paper today. This is such a great idea with TONs of possibilities. I love it and thanks for sharing. I hope you are doing well!!~Meg

  4. I’m just not getting this. Here’s what I think I’ve got right.1. Put the monogram on the non shiny side (tape it down)2. Paint it on the shiny side (so should I put the monogram in reverse on the nonshiny side)3. Let paint dry4. Flip it so that the painted shiny side is face down on the fabric? That way you’re ironing the nonpainted side and it transfers the paint to your fabric?5. Iron and pull it off (does it need to cool before you pull it?)Sorry to be so slow. I keep re-reading this and have googled it but I’m just not 100% sure of the steps! lol. Can you use regular acrylic paint?ETA—or are you basically just creating a stencil and then painting it like that? So slow today…not nearly enough coffee I think.

  5. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now… I guess I need to just go out there and get the supplies and try my hand at it!Love how your monogram turned out!

  6. C-re,Yes…it’s basically a stencil. You don’t paint the paper. Cut out the letters. Iron freezer paper onto shirt and then paint the cut-out letters. Let paint dry, then peel the freezer paper off. Hope this helps.

  7. I was thinking it would be really cute to do a freezer art monogram on a fabric slipcovered headboard. My daughter is almost ready for a big girl bed… Wouldn’t that be cute?!
